Colonizing Mars?
Some Unspoken Truths and an Opinion?

For anyone who follows the Trump-Musk agenda for colonizing Mars, I have a not so subtle warning. If successful will be built on the backs of the poor and marginalized. The conditions on the surface of Mars are haltingly oppressive—so much so that death would be preferable alternative for the first colonists if there was not adequate protection from the radiation. The undertaking could conceivably bankrupt our nation if they (Trump and his cronies) do not gut social services for the poor and aged of our great country.
Mars could conceivably be a playground for the rich and powerful who believe they are entitled to everything. Colonies would most likely be put underground or heavily shielded on the surface.
Don’t get me wrong— I would love to see a “Blue colony” on Mars for everyone. I am science writer with a scientist’s heart. However, our planet faces so many problems that need addressing, first. From lifting the poor out of poverty, to universal health care, to addressing climate change, to addressing the plastics pollution issue and much more, we need to straighten out our home planet’s issues before venturing on a seemingly quixotic venture to Mars. It would seemingly be a suicide venture if Musk wasn’t hell bent on cutting so many programs with his DOGE initiative. Musk does not want to die on Mars—he wants the common man to fork over his Social Security benefits so he can live comfortably on Mars. We can not afford to capitulate to the oligarchy.
I venture to guess that Mr. Trump and his cronies want Canada and Greenland so they can fund their venture and plunder the resources for their Martian venture. The next four years will be hell for many of us—and we can’t afford to give up. Stay Blue and stay aware. Peace out!
